Training for Performance
You should know that in my view, the
fitness world has been poisoned with dysfunction creating
machines and non-useful body building methods.
Training this way is not only a waste of time if you want to
move better, but leaves you
susceptible to injury. Why do people train this way then?
Partly because this is all that most people
know, but remember you have the machine manufacturers pumping
out advertising to convince you that machines are safer.
Unfortunately it's a fallacy you might pay for with injury.
Let me give you an example... go
into any gym and you'll
see people sitting on a leg extension machine. A machine
like this works a mere four muscles but worse, does so
independently of any body stabilizers that normally must
activate when you move in the real world.
Contrast
this with a lunge. When
done correctly you have abdominal, back, hip and lower leg
stabilizers working in addition to the same muscles that the
machine works. In addition to all the stabilization, those
leg muscles must work through integrating with the ones around
them. Just like in the real world! Machines create a
false sense of security that in the real world can leave you
susceptible to injury.
Paul Chek often notes that most machines don't
even train your head to move with your body.
This makes them less neurologically
challenging then rolling out of bed in the morning!
How will this ever improve your function,
performance or contribute to weight loss?
Don't train like a bodybuilder If
you're a bodybuilder and your goal is aesthetics, then doing
bicep curls to isolate your biceps is correct; I'm not talking
to you. If you're an athlete involved in a sport that
requires pushing and pulling, or a human being who moves during the day
(should be pretty much everyone), then improving function means
you need to integrate your body during training.
Training with Dynamic Sports When
you train with me, after talking about your goals, we'll complete a full body assessment to
figure out where you are. Learning what needs to be stretched and what needs to be
strengthened will help us build an effective program to help you
reach your goals.
Have Back Pain?
We'll
ensure your abdominal wall is
turned on to stabilize your body and then teach you
use it during standing movement. 98% of low back pain suffers
also have concomitant sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Our
back care programs specifically address these issues. In short, we'll
rebuild a solid
foundation for you to build your health and performance on.
Sport Specific Training If you're looking for sports
improvement, we'll break your work or sport's required movements into the
Primal Movement Patterns and begin developing a training plan
that will improve your neurological and muscular system's
ability to function more effectively. We'll also look at
your aerobic or anaerobic needs,
and work on implementing the Foundational Health Principals of Diet, Hydration,
Breathing and Circadian Rhythms to support your hard efforts.
Feel free to call or email if you have
any questions. I'd love to talk about how we can work
together to improve your level of performance!
